Jeep Recalls 194,000 Plug-In Hybrids Due to Fire Risks
Stellantis, the owner of Jeep, has initiated a significant recall involving approximately 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs. This recall impacts specific Jeep Wrangler 4xe models manufactured between 2020 and 2024, as well as certain Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs produced from 2022 to 2024. The company has identified a potential fire hazard affecting an estimated five percent of these vehicles, after receiving reports of 13 fires occurring while the vehicles were parked and turned off.
In a proactive move, Stellantis has advised customers to refrain from recharging their vehicles and to park them away from structures or other vehicles until the issue can be rectified. Although the company has not yet scheduled any repairs, it assures that a “remedy is imminent” and that affected owners will be notified when service appointments can be made.
The recall predominantly impacts customers in the United States, with approximately 154,032 vehicles affected. In addition, over 14,000 vehicles will be recalled in Canada, 673 in Mexico, and 25,502 elsewhere in North America. This situation poses a significant concern for affected owners, as using their vehicles in the interim may expose them to unnecessary risks.
