Originally unveiled in 2021 under the name Project Starline, Beam utilizes advanced 3D imaging, spatial audio, and adaptive lighting to foster an engaging video chat experience. Although Beam was primarily designed for corporate clients—with a starting price of $25,000 for the first device—this new application for military families underscores Google’s commitment to exploring diverse uses for the technology.
