Creators Can Opt Out, But the Platform Really Wants Videos to Look Better on TVs
YouTube is rolling out several updates aimed at enhancing video quality on its TV apps, including a new automatic AI video upscaling feature. This innovative tool will upscale videos uploaded in resolutions lower than 1080p to an HD quality. Future plans include supporting 4K upscaling for an even more immersive viewing experience.
Despite this new feature, YouTube will continue to maintain the original video files and resolution options. Creators have the option to opt out of the Super Resolution feature, which also includes automated audio adjustments. In tandem, the platform is collaborating with select creators to test larger video uploads to facilitate the delivery of higher-quality content.
Enhanced Thumbnail Quality
Additionally, YouTube is set to improve thumbnail quality by increasing the file limit from 2MB to 50MB, allowing creators to showcase their content more effectively.
Engaging Video Discovery
To enhance viewer engagement, YouTube has introduced immersive previews similar to those seen on platforms like Netflix. This will enable viewers to explore and flip through their favorite channels on the homepage, making content discovery more interactive.
Contextual Search Improvements
The platform has also added a contextual search function for its TV apps. Now, when viewers search for content from a specific creator’s channel, videos from that channel will appear at the top of the search results—a smart and logical enhancement to streamline user experience.
