Withings Launches $380 Toilet-Mounted Urine Analyzer U-Scan: An In-Depth Look

Withings’ $380 Toilet-Mounted Urine Analyzer Is Finally Ready to Buy

RUBBER GLOVES NOT INCLUDED.

After nearly three years of anticipation since its initial reveal, the Withings U-Scan is now available for purchase. This innovative at-home urinalysis device sits in your toilet bowl and analyzes your first morning sample. Depending on the cartridge you choose, it can provide insights into either your nutritional intake or kidney health. The results sync with the Withings app, allowing you to monitor your urine quality over time. I had the unique opportunity to be the first reporter to test the U-Scan during its debut, and I found the results quite intriguing.

At launch, there are two available cartridges: the Nutrio and Calci. The Nutrio cartridge evaluates your body’s nutritional response by analyzing your urine’s pH, specific gravity, ketone levels, and vitamin C presence. These metrics help users gauge their diet’s acidity, hydration levels, fat-burning status, and antioxidant intake. This cartridge will be particularly useful for those on GLP-1 medication for weight loss, helping them track nutritional changes. On the other hand, the Calci cartridge monitors pH, specific gravity, and calcium levels to assess the risk of kidney stone formation.

Naturally, owning such a device comes at a price. The U-Scan retails for $379.95, which includes one cartridge lasting three months and access to the Withings+ service. The service offers two subscription plans: “Proactive” (2-4 analyses weekly) and “Intensive” (near-daily analyses). For teams wanting more frequent monitoring, the two-cartridge option will set you back $449.96, including Withings+ access for three months. Replacement cartridges will cost $99.95 quarterly for the Proactive plan, while the Intensive users will pay $179.95. As a bonus, signing up for Withings+ includes a complimentary coaching session with a registered dietician across all 50 states.
