Tesla’s Fifth Cybertruck Recall: Addressing Rear-View Camera Glitch
Tesla has announced its fifth recall of the Cybertruck, affecting over 27,000 vehicles, due to an issue with the rear-view camera display. The recall was initiated in response to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which indicated a delay in the camera’s image feed. Specifically, the rear-view camera failed to provide a timely image to the driver, exceeding the legal limit of two seconds, thus increasing the risk of crashes.
According to Reuters, the issue stems from a software glitch within the Cybertruck’s system. In some instances, the vehicles did not complete their shutdown process before restarting, causing delays in the rear-view camera functioning that could last up to eight seconds. Fortunately, there have been no reported crashes or injuries connected to this malfunction. Tesla plans to resolve the issue through an over-the-air software update.
This recall is part of a series of complications that the Cybertruck has faced this year. In April, Tesla delayed deliveries due to accelerator issues, which subsequently led to a recall over sticky accelerator pedals. Further recall action occurred in June when problems arose with the windshield wiper motor and trim, affecting newly delivered vehicles.
Even the virtual version of the Cybertruck experienced glitches shortly after its introduction in the popular video game Fortnite, leading to a fix from Epic Games.
